As President Obama’s health care prescription has sunk steadily in the polls, a few of its (and his) supporters are pulling the race card.  The latest example is an African-American Congresswoman named Diane Watson (a radical I remember very well from my days in LA). From the story:

They are spreading fear and they’re trying to see that the first president who looks like me — fails. Now just understand what’s at the bottom line.

This line of argument would not only fail to help Obamacare, it could destroy Obama’s presidency.  He ran as a post-racial candidate and even his political opponents are thrilled that a terrible barrier to African-American advancement has been shattered.  But being post-racial means that he should take his brickbats as well as his praises without regard to the irrelevancy of his racial heritage. For his own sake, as well as the country’s, I think the president should personally reject this kind of divisive and destructive argumentation.

I don’t think Watson’s love affair for Castro and Che (a mass murderer) helps the president’s cause, either:
Did anyone say anything about the Cuban health system?  And let me tell you, you need to go down there and see what Fidel Castro put in place. And let me tell you, you can think what you want about Fidel Castro, but he is one of the brightest leaders I have ever met. And you know the Cuban Revolution that kicked out the wealthy—Che Guevara did that—and then after they took over, they went out among the population to find someone who could lead this new nation, and they found...an attorney named Fidel Castro.

That’s not great history, and it sure doesn’t speak well for Watson’s belief in democracy.  But more of that, please. It will really kill Obamacare.
