When I first heard this I thought someone was putting me on. However, here’s the link, so maybe it’s the truth.

Now I’m not a really big fan of exorbitantly large gummint but killing federales seems just a bit beyond the pale! I don’t think my ancestors at Pittsburgh back during the Whiskey Rebellion did much more than tar and feather the gentlemen seeking a Hamilton inspired tax on their grains.

Of course, when the census worker came and interviewed me, I told her we had two people living on the premises. When she made further inquiries I repeated two people lived here and she should leave. But, I was very polite.

And, now I ‘m not sure if I was being a cordial PoMoCon or a well-armed Front Porcher?

Dear Reader,

While I have you, can I ask you something? I’ll be quick.

Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?

Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.

How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
