Newser , an online news aggregator started by Michael Wolff ( Vanity Fair , New York magazine), claims to “choose the most important stories from hundreds of US and international sources and reduce them to a headline, picture, and two paragraphs.”

That reducing to a picture can be a bit tricky. For instance, today they have an item about the despicable Baptist preacher Steven Anderson who recently said from the pulpit that he was praying that President Obama would die. They also included the picture posted on the right.

It is a picture of a Baptist from Arizona—just not of Anderson. The photo is a YouTube screenshot of James White, director of Alpha and Omega Ministries , who created a  video refuting the King James-Only views of the Faithful Word Baptist Church pastor.

In fairness to Newser, it’s an easy mistake to make. I’ve been a Baptist my whole life and I often can’t tell us apart either.

(Thanks to Anthony Sacramone for the tip.)

Dear Reader,

While I have you, can I ask you something? I’ll be quick.

Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?

Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.

How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
