I have been very interested that much of the reacton to the Rom Houben case—the man misdiagnosed for 23 years as being unconscious—ultimately gets back to Terri Schiavo. Indeed, she remains so much with us that every time we hear about the newest “miraculous” awakening, we find ourselves wrestling again with the moral import of all that happened; haunted it seems, by her beautifully smiling face. I explore the matter further  in this week’s Weekly Standard .
