Since the post-election doldrums are a ripe time for debates about the role of religion in government, Barrett Brown and I have agreed to host a discussion, both here and at the League of Ordinary Gentleman blog, concerning the nature and existence of God and his proper relation to the state.
The format will include the posting of quotes chosen by each participant followed by at least three rounds of exchanges with one post on each side (the level of interest will determine if it will continue after that agreed upon minimum limit).
Mr. Brown is the founder of the distributed think-tank Project PM, a contributor to Vanity Fair and Skeptical Inquirer as well as the author of Flock of Dodos: Behind Modern Creationism, Intelligent Design, and the Easter Bunny and a forthcoming book on the mediocrity of mainstream American commentary. He also serves as director of communications of the atheist PAC Enlighten the Vote.
You can find all of the posts in the discussion at this link .
While I have you, can I ask you something? I’ll be quick.
Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?
Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.
How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
