Political correctness rules the world!  Men and women play in different golf and tennis tournaments because they have biological differences in body strength, coordination, and etc.  The distinction isn’t invidious. Rather, it allows like to compete against like, as it were, to give everyone a fair chance.

Now, a male-to-female transgender’s lawsuit to be allowed to compete as a woman in the LPGA has borne fruit. From the story:

In a league meeting prior to this week’s LPGA Tour Championship, a motion was voted on to amend the LPGA’s constitution by removing the “female at birth” requirement, LPGA commissioner Michael Whan said. The change is a reaction to a lawsuit filed Oct. 12 in U.S. District Court in San Francisco by Lana Lawless, a 57-year-old retired police officer who underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2005. Lawless claimed the policy violated California civil rights laws.

Everything in life shouldn’t be ruled by self definition!  Lawless is only a woman legally.  Biologically, which is what counts in athletic competition, he is still a man.  And allowing a biological male to compete in LPGA tournaments will give him an unfair leg up, to wit:
Lawless won the women’s world championship in long-drive golf in 2008...

Gee, imagine that.  An ex cop with male upper body strength could drive the ball farther than his (biologically) female competitors.

Sometimes “discrimination” has a rational and proper purpose.  Just because Lawless believes she’s a woman, and the law accommodates her identity, that doesn’t make it actually true.  Perhaps they should change the rules so that anyone with an Adam’s apple can’t compete.  That would get the job done without reference to legal gender.
