Here is something that was supposed to go up on June 29th, but, um, didn’t. But the links may interest some of you, even late:

Today is the sixtieth anniversary of Joseph Ratzinger’s ordination to the priesthood. Someone has found and posted a movie of parts of the service . You can see the young Ratzinger, just ordained, in the procession from about 4:50 to 4:55.

Here are a few Benedict links:

The biography from the Vatican website .

The texts of Benedict’s  encyclicals and other writings .

The official site for his visit to England .

The Pope Benedict XVI Fan Club , which includes his writings as cardinal .

His 1998 Erasmus Lecture (that’s our lecture series, by the way): Biblical Interpretation in Crisis .

Avery Cardinal Dulles’ From Ratzinger to Benedict .

R. R. Reno’s The Pontificate of Continuity .

Dear Reader,

While I have you, can I ask you something? I’ll be quick.

Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?

Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.

How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
