Today On the Square, Matthew Hennessey writes on “Down Syndrome and the Purpose of Prenatal Testing” :
I view the drive to eradicate Down syndrome through abortion as a threat to my daughters health and well-being. As the prevalence of Down syndrome declines, so too will research funding and social support. No one wants their child to be an endangered species. No one wants their kid to be the last of the Mohicans.
And Seth Chalmer argues that universalism and particularism are not in conflict in “A Particularly Universal Love” :
Now, it is true that some Jews emphasize either particularism or universalism to the detriment of the other. Some Jews really dont care enough about people beyond the Jewish world, and to them we ought to speak of Judaisms many teachings that insist they open their hearts to all people.

Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?
Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.
How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
