President Obama promised repeatedly, as he sold the snake oil, “If you like your health insurance, you can keep your health insurance.” It was mendacious then, and has proved to be utterly mendacious now.
Today, if you or your company changes your health plan, you have to abide by Obamacare rules. And now, with the new Free Birth Control Rule, those plans that don’t cover birth control for free will be forced to change under penalty of fine, meaning they will have to abide by Obamacare rules.
So, it turns out that if you like your health plan, you can’t necessarily keep your health plan. And you were never going to be able to. In other words, the president lied. Just another example of the utterly mendacious and appallingly corrupt process that led to the passage of this law. Shame!

Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?
Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.
How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
