Polls show that AL and MS are pretty much three-way ties, with the not-Romney vote, of course, split down the middle. That kind of result helps Romney, of course.

Other good news is that Romney runs ahead of Obama in a 2nd poll. Question: Why are Republicans so fatalistic when they’re actually WINNING?

Ambigously bad news for Romney: He’s only four ahead of Santorum nationwide.

I certainly agree with Raymond below that Romney is joking when he tries to speak southern, and no reasonable person would be offended. Well, “cheesy grits” is a bit offensive. The manly and true phrase is “cheese grits.” I also don’t believe him when he says he found a meal of biscuits and “cheesy grits” to be delicious. It’s not, after all. Anyway, my sense is Romney is doing a little better in the South as a whole, but only a little better.

Here are my quick thoughts on grey divorce—a trend that clearly will have nothing to do with either Mitt or Rick.

Dear Reader,

While I have you, can I ask you something? I’ll be quick.

Twenty-five thousand people subscribe to First Things. Why can’t that be fifty thousand? Three million people read First Things online like you are right now. Why can’t that be four million?

Let’s stop saying “can’t.” Because it can. And your year-end gift of just $50, $100, or even $250 or more will make it possible.

How much would you give to introduce just one new person to First Things? What about ten people, or even a hundred? That’s the power of your charitable support.
