Which is to say, this language has been used in a whole assortment of ways. Thus if the notion of the rights of man has become the hallmark of modern ethical theory and liberal politics, it is nevertheless a confused notion. There were, there are, different languages of the rights of man, and these languages must first of all be distinguished one from the another.
