Dear Readers,

As you know from what I’ve written in recent months, I believe our political distempers flow from cultural disorientation, which is at root a spiritual disorientation. We’re living in a period of transformation, even crisis. This is troubling. But it’s also an opportunity, a chance to be heard amid the din.

First Things is a clarifying voice. Our magazine, website, podcasts, lectures, and intellectual retreats offer believers solid ground on which to stand. First Things is more than a magazine. We’re a rallying point.

Which is why we need your support.

First Things is launching the online portion of its fall fundraising campaign. Our goal is to raise $500,000 with the help of our readers by Saturday, December 31st. We need your contribution to reach this goal.

For over 25 years, our mission at First Things has been to renew the religious foundations of our society. I know that goal looks increasingly remote. But the best defense is a good offense. We need to speak loudly, boldly, and theologically. We need help from readers like you in order to keep up with this task. Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to First Things now.

If you’ve already given this season, thank you for your support. There’s not another publication out there with readers like you, and I pledge to continue to keep First Things firmly rooted on the solid ground of truth.

Sincerely,

R. R. Reno
Editor, First Things

Dear Reader,

We launched the First Things 2023 Year-End Campaign to keep articles like the one you just read free of charge to everyone.

Measured in dollars and cents, this doesn't make sense. But consider who is able to read First Things: pastors and priests, college students and professors, young professionals and families. Last year, we had more than three million unique readers on firstthings.com.

Informing and inspiring these people is why First Things doesn't only think in terms of dollars and cents. And it's why we urgently need your year-end support.

Will you give today?
