A few counterpoints to those worrying about the decline of the US and other such nonsense:
a) If we need to “get exports going,” the lower dollar will help that.
b) The decline of the dollar is largely a sign of the world economy’s recovery.
c) And blaming Obama for our large deficit is a little odd. For one thing, the deficit is largely due to 1) policies put in place before he got into office and 2) the deficit. What matters is the long term budget deficit. Maybe Obama will end up being disastrous on that front, but I think it’s way too early to say.
This was actually very good panelism, which is as rare as a Chicagoan with integrity.
