Comedy Central—the origin of the South Park program that had its references to Mohammad censored— has apparently announced that it is developing a new cartoon about Jesus Christ, the premise of which will be that God, preoccupied with playing video games, loses track of Jesus, who moves to New York and tries to “adjust to life in the big city.”
There is much that could be said about all this, but here are two quick predictions:
1) It will be far more blasphemous about Christianity than the Danish cartoons were about Islam.
2) There won’t be any riots over it.

It doesn’t have to exist at all if Christians bombard them with letters of complaint. Why do we have to take this nonsense any more? Why?

Letters of complaint and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee.
Besides, it will enable them to self-righteously preen about how edgy and shocking they are.

I agree, Mary. What a sadly pathetic move on their part. Fortunately, Christians know what happens to those who truly blaspheme the Lord; we don’t need to riot.

Playing video games all day, neglecting His own child, and “finding Himself” in a big city? God, made in our own image!

Have you noticed how unedgy edgy stuff has gotten? I think its a symptom of tolerance; physiological tolerance not philosophical. Those who dote on that “edge” find it is illusory and reach for the mirage they see just beyond it. There was a time when addiction was thought a bad thing.

How did a great Christian nation allow it’s media industry to fall and stay in the hands of such cultural polluters and stinkers?
Reminds me of the Jackson Browne song:
“..and there we are, the dutiful
Eating from TV trays, tuned into to Happy Days
Waiting for World War III while Jesus slaves
To the mating calls of lawyers in love”

Maybe Paimaneh Hasteh should be added as a new character in the next season of South Park to help her become less edgy.

Ever notice that a lot of the “humor” that appeals to young people is not really funny? Something has happened in the last 20 years or so, around the time people like Adam Sandler began to become popular. I recall reading that Lorne Michaels of SNL did not understand Sandler’s “humor” and wanted to limit his contributions to the show, but his staff persuaded him that Sandler was the “new thing” in comedy. Michaels was right; Sandler’s juvenile antics never were funny. Conan O’Brien – strange and jerky, but not funny. Chris Rock – angry and demonic, but not funny. Seth Rogan – ????? I can’t put my finger on exactly what happened, except to say that most of the comic intelligence and discrimination seems to have drained away. Nowadays, watching reruns of “Frasier” is probably the best comedy you’re going to find.

Comedy Central, can we see something edgy along the lines of a cartoon
within a cartoon?
Perhaps something on the life and times of a hollywood secular type who is well balanced only in the sense of carrying a chip on both shoulders towards Christians?
We can follow hillarious antics as he uses funny cartoons to smuggle obscenity and
blasphemy into the minds of young Christians.
We can watch him team up with suitably drawn bug-eyed fanatical atheists and share in their
success as they help produce aimless and depressed teens who have had their precious faith undermined and stolen.
I expect the series should be quick and easy to produce as they can draw upon lots of
real-life entertainment experiences.

For some strange reason, the makers of these shows, who are, after all, I’m going to presume, halfway sensible capitalists, feel the need to mock a religion that most of the country, strongly adheres to.
I’ve come to the conclusion that those who make fun of Christianity (or any religion for that matter) lack creativity, and are forever stuck in the two digit I.Q. world.

Well, if the South Park creators are involved, it will probably be pretty funny too. Those guys would float an idea like this just to annoy the network – they are equal opportunity offenders (as anyone who has seen the Scientology or Atheism episodes will confirm)….

This is all nice and urbaner-than-thou (yes, like Chesterton said 100 years ago, blasphemy is banal), but why aren’t there christians rioting over this? If Comedy Central has learned not to mock those who might hurt them, why haven’t christians learned the converse?
