    Isn’t comedy based on reality?

Brilliant! That is so true I can’t believe it! I’ve visited churches just like this in SF and Sacramento. They left out that the service should start and end at the coffee house in the church, and that the music should be so loud that you can drink your latte, stand and nod your head, and not worry about participating in the singing.

What’s weird is that this video was produced by a megachurch video production team (Andy Stanley’s church in Georgia). Self-deprecating humor is all well and good, but when you have that level of self-awareness, shouldn’t a desire to change be in order?

I’ve never seen a service like this, so I don’t understand many of the references.

But obviously the parody was inspired by this viral masterpiece:

On my official list of “The 7,987 Things that Drove Me Across the Tiber”, churches, services, music and mindsets like those parodied above come in at Number 3. Right after “These Biblical literalists have no understanding of the literal meaning of the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John” and “I realize I need one-on-one confession, not a Christian version of Up with People”.
