Robert Wilken, chairman of the board of directors for the Institute on Religion and Public Life, has released the following statement:
I am pleased to announce that the Board of the Institute on Religion and Public Life has appointed R. R. Reno editor of First Things, effective April 1, 2011.

Congratulations Mr. Reno! The board could not have picked a more thoughtfully philosophical Christian man.
As i have enjoyed the magazine for many years and I know Mr. Reno will continue in the tradition of the late Fr. Neuhaus and previous editor, Mr. Bottum.

I look forward to your tenure, Mr. Reno.

Congrats Dr. Reno. Brilliant to have changeover on April Fools Day – that way if there are any mistakes you can say they were intended to be jokes. Best of luck.

Will Editor Reno reinstate the crossword puzzle? I thought last issue was surely an aberration due to the holidays, but today the latest issue has arrived without puzzle, too. True, the quality of the puzzle was only tolerable. (No crossword worth its salt can be completed in one sitting.) Perhaps Editor Reno has been provided with an opportunity to take an instantly laudable action that puts his stamp on the publication?

Congratulations to R.R. Reno(whatever his first name is). His writing is a pleasure to read and I look forward to the pieces he’ll commission.
But like Dion here, I want to know what happened to J.Bottum. Also, why has David P Goldman made so few appearances on the website in the past couple of months?

Again: Where is J. Bottum? I was told about 6 weeks ago that there would be a statement from the board. That has not happened…
