A UN report has warned that the H1N1 flu could kill millions around the world and cause social dislocation and anarchy. From the story:
The swine flu pandemic could kill millions and cause anarchy in the world’s poorest nations unless £900m can be raised from rich countries to pay for vaccines and antiviral medicines, says a UN report leaked to the Observer. The disclosure will provoke concerns that health officials will not be able to stem the growth of the worldwide H1N1 pandemic in developing countries. If the virus takes hold in the poorest nations, millions could die and the economies of fragile countries could be destroyed.
Health ministers around the globe were sent the warning on Thursday in a report on the costs of averting a humanitarian disaster in the next few months. It comes as officials inside the World Health Organisation, the UN’s public health body, said they feared they would not be able to raise half that amount because of the global downturn.
Gregory Hartl of WHO said the report required an urgent response from rich nations. “There needs to be recognition that the whole world is affected by this pandemic and the chain is only as strong as its weakest link. We have seen how H1N1 has taken hold in richer nations and in the southern hemisphere. We have been given fair warning and must act soon,” he said.
Here’s the thing: This was commissioned by the head of the UN, Ban ki-Moon, who is a known hysteric. Why do I say that? He recently said we have a mere 4 months to “secure” the planet from global warming. Only two and a half months to go!
I am not saying we shouldn’t help the developing world. But since the call to spend over a billion dollars rush-rush is connected to Ban, it bears a little skepticism. I would like to see confirmation from other health care experts. Moreover, I think people have reached the point of hysteria saturation. If the UN’s fears prove false, people might refuse to take a more deadly pandemic seriously when it comes along.
On the bright side, if–God forbid– millions died, the deep ecologists will be thrilled!

Flu season, in the southern hemisphere, has mostly run its course and, yet, we don’t hear daily reports of tens of thousands of Aussies dying horrible, pig flu-stricken, deaths do we?
(In other words: this whole pig flu scare is just that: another in a long line of nascent modern era plagues that will never infect (let alone kill) many beyond the florid imaginations of lunatics like Ban Ki-Moon.)

Between you and me Wesley, we should use a LOT more than a grain of salt. As a matter of fact, I’ve been doing “IT” for years now and any time I feel my Adam’s Apple getting too long where I can barely swallow, I simply gargle will about 1/8 spoon full of salt in a 3/4 glass of Luc warm water and keep gargling until “IT” is all gone and “IT” honestly works and my Adam’s Apple goes back to normal size.
Now as far as H1N1 is concern, well I think that “IT” is created for sinner vic and the rest of so called following cells who think that they are really “IT”. If you believe in God and are doing all you can to help the poor and I honestly believe that most are so I wouldn’t worry about “IT” cause we all must die sooner or later.
Wesley please don’t utter a word of this to the aliens so called gods cause if they ever found out that I didn’t believe like they do in living forever without dying I would have no choice but to go to a mental hospital again just so I can keep this flesh of mine a little longer.
So between you and me Mom’s the word, or is “IT” mums the words, I just don’t know anymore so if you don’t publish this I will understand!

What’s come upon you! I am dismayed. You should know that the US isn’t some tinpot dictatorship where actions are launched by decree. The WHO is an international version of sorts of our own CDC. It has over a 100 nations among its members, and works towards health for all, everywhere, whether they can pay for it or not. And you can keep your billions, which by the way is about 1/500th or so of the US defense budget and 1/1000th of the world’s. India and Brazil will, if the H1N1 epidemic breaks out, and adequate supplies of the vaccine aren’t to be had, break the patents on the vaccine and produce them at very low cost. As India and most of the other poor nations have beaten back the scourge of HIV by a combination of public action and mass production of copycat drug cocktails, this too shall be tackled.

I think all who don’t believe that H1N1 is a threat should simply refuse to be vaccinated. If they’re right, there’s no harm done. On the other hand, if it turns out that we experience a pandemic such as we had in 1919 the net effect will be to cull a very large number of fools from the gene pool.
