Why I Am Catholic

Well, not really.

In my Inaugural day linkfest, I made a quick and O/T declaration: “This looks exactly like my elder son.

Well, he does. Exactly. Even Elder Son’s eyebrows raised when he saw this picture of Fr. Christopher. It gives me an idea of what he’d look like if he was an Orthodox priest, blessing the waters:

I found the picture at The Crescat – a place I check in with most days because, like Happy Catholic, it is a site that is a feast for the eyes, instructional and often hilarious. Also, Carolina Cannonball is even more obsessed with nuns and Icons than I am, (she has a thing for handsome Swiss Guards, and she presents some amazing ecclesiastical bling, (from back when such bling was the thing), from time to time.

Imagine, immortalizing someone you love (or don’t love) in an Icon. You’d only find a story like that at the Crescat.

Yes, it’s a spoof – Ilya Kuriakin should tip you off, if you are of a “certain age”.

Ilya!!! I have explained, ad nauseum, how much I like NCIS to my children. They just cannot comprehend the hunky old guys were hunky young guys. I’m especially fond of when Gibbs goes to the morgue – then I have both my boys in the same shot!

I love the name of David McCallum’s character in NCIS too, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard.

re: immortalizing someone you love as an icon.

Why not? Michaelangelo immortalized a few guys he hated on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, but in a way the joke was on him. Today if you don’t read about it you’d never know who they were, and even then you have to take the book’s word for it. Wonder if they actually went where Michaelangelo put them.
