Remember the Irishman in Braveheart who declared that Ireland, “is my island!”

Seems President Obama thinks our nuclear arsenal is his weaponry.

Thank Ace for the boldface:

Obama has rejected the Pentagon’s first draft of the “nuclear posture review” as being too timid, and has called for a range of more far-reaching options consistent with his goal of eventually abolishing nuclear weapons altogether, according to European officials.

The review is due to be completed by the end of this year, and European officials say the outcome is not yet clear. But one official said: “Obama is now driving this process. He is saying these are the president’s weapons, and he wants to look again at the doctrine and their role.”

Hey, he may have broken all of his promises to reverse the policies of George W. Bush when it comes to war, domestic wiretapping, enhanced interrogation, rendition and the rest, but you can’t say he isn’t keeping his promises to disarm America.

So, I made this incredible cake yesterday for my FIL’s birthday and it really was fantastic. I am a known cake-disliker and even I declared it “the best cake ever.” Make it. Eat it. You will love.

Why am I talking cake while the president is losing interest in Afghanistan (the war that “must” be won), considering formalizing his shack-up with the press, redefining the meaning of the words “tax” and “fine, and trying to tell a sitting governor that he mustn’t run for re-election. Oh, and while his White House looks to be enmeshed in a mess?

We have another 3.5 years of this. Might as well enjoy something.

I kinda miss Bush, today.

I watched the coin toss (and not much more) of the Dallas football game last night, which W. & Mrs. Laura Bush did. I couldn’t help myself from saying, “Oh! W! I miss that man.”

“In November 2008, America voted to commit national suicide”

as well as…morally, physically, emotionally, financially, mortally…

Someone please tell me how to make a quote show up in italics – I can’t figger it out.

    The One Girl-

To italicize use the lower case i as the command. Replace my paren with “”.

    Like (i)italicized text(/i).

The “i” opens the command, the “/i” closes it.

Hmm. The brackets didn’t come out in that.

Replace the paren with a ‘less than’ sign to open, ‘greater than’ sign to close.

    Dear Dave,

Beg yer pardon? I’m sure you meant well, but I’m not computer literate at all and I don’t know what you mean! Thanks for trying, though.

Shoot – there goes my cred. :-( I can make faces, though.

Sorry The One Girl the site is blanking out the commands so I made a big fat FAIL trying to help.

Anyway, Go here. About half way down is the example for italicizing.

Anchoress – sorry to use this forum as Computers 101, but I think I’m getting a bead on this -

So, if I do this: “HTML uses tags to communicate to the client (browser) how to display text and images. Tags are contained in symbols. In most cases you start with the beginning tag, put in the word or words that will be affected by this tag, and at the end of the string of word(s), you place a closing tag.”

    - then this – should show up in italics.

If this doesn’t work, I will practice elsewhere. If it does work, God love ya Dave. And even if it doesn’t!

Why are you talking cake when this president is such a mess?

    1. Because he IS such a mess, and if you and we dwell on it 24/7 from now until he’s gone, we WILL go batty.

    2. Because the cake is worth it. I haven’t tried that recipe, but tres leches is awesome stuff.

Excellent job! And I’m glad you haven’t withdrawn from commenting after all.

What I would like to know is how to do a line down the side, as you might for an extended quote.

The html tag for an extended quote is blockquote. I’m not sure about the line down the side — that may be configurable on the viewer’s side of things.

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

So- did you do the single cherry, or go for the dice? It is your fault that I know have to bake this cake!
Lucky for me I still have one package of Jingle Bell Java left to drink with it. Called the monks and the new coffee will not be available until November. Lucky I paced myself ;) .

    I kinda miss Bush, today.

That is the understatement of this, or any other year you’d care to nominate.

I lived through the Carter years as a teenager and I am afraid that the Current Occupant will make Carter look like Reagan in comparison.

As an aside, I’m the type of “cook” who can burn water but Pioneer Woman makes me want to try my hand at cooking. Well done to Ree for her blog, and thanks to you Anchoress for linking to her.
