Like Instapundit, I have no problem with inaccurate news stories being corrected (although pulling them altogether is a bit dramatic), and so I am happy to read the correct information, which the press has quickly presented to us.

The official said when the administration saw the story, published yesterday afternoon, they contacted one of the Reuters White House correspondents.

The White House pushed these points:

– Our budget explicitly calls for permanently extending the Bush tax cuts for households making less than $250,000. – Our budget explicitly calls for allowing the top rate on dividends to increase to 20% for households making over $250,000. – Our budget accounts for the cost of continuing the AMT “Patch”. The last administration’s budgets ignored these costs, but we explicitly account for them. – Our budget extends expiring tax provisions through 2011.

The official said the Reuters White House team “worked to quickly remedy the situation and helped get the story completely withdrawn” last night.

How about that? They quickly “remedied” the situation, and corrected the record, and they didn’t even mock the president and his team for complaining about erroneous stories, as they did to the last administration.

But what struck me was this line:

Our budget explicitly calls for permanently extending the Bush tax cuts for households making less than $250,000.

What? People who were not rich got Tax Cuts under Bush? I thought the Bush Tax Cuts were evil, and immoral, and they were only for the “top 1%” of earners in the country – his gift to his rich pals?

You mean there were Bush Tax Cuts that were not evil or immoral and that deserve to be extended? That they were, in fact, so respectable that the Obama administration even acknowledges them as “Bush” tax cuts and retains them?

This is the same White House that is also retaining most of Bush’s policies on terrorism and stuff, right?

The same predecessor Obama keeps blaming for everything?

The one who left Obama with so much “red ink” due to profligate spending, that Obama argues he must spend trillions more in order to save us . . . even though the spending is not, um…well, where the hell is all this “job-creating” money they’re supposedly pumping into the economy, anyway?

Oh, forget it. Obama is “stumping for jobs” by “pushing health care”. And judging by these headlines, I won’t be able to get a straight answer to any question.

Nothing means anything, anymore. Words truly are “just words,” now, and in this Looking-Glass Administration, words mean exactly what Obama says they mean at any given moment. They will mean something else, in five minutes.

`I don’t know what you mean by “glory”,’ Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. `Of course you don’t — till I tell you. I meant “there’s a nice knock-down argument for you!”‘

`But “glory” doesn’t mean “a nice knock-down argument”,’ Alice objected.

`When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

`The question is,’ said Alice, `whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

`The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, `which is to be master — that’s all.’

The president says he wants to create jobs, and to do that, he is surrounding himself with people who have never created them. But his words mean something.

WELCOME: Instapundit readers. Please look around. Today I’m also writing about the magical memory hole where yesterday’s news reports get filed today, at least when it comes to the president, and believe it or not, Oprah is interviewing some of our young nun friends!

I got this from a friend this morning ~ pretty accurate!

“I take exception to those saying that Obama, Reid and Pelosi are spending like drunken sailors.
When I was a drunken sailor, I quit spending when I ran out of money.”

    Query –

Who has more contempt for the other — my contempt for Obama, or Obama’s contempt for me and conservatives like me?

I suspect it is the latter. After all, I did, once upon a time, have some flattering things to say about him, even if we were on different sides. But Obama has done nothing but demonize conservatives, and he continues to repeatedly, in every speech, give the back of his hand to us.

Remember, Obama has a sign on his desk that says, “The Buck Stops in Crawford, TX”, unless, I guess there is a Bush policy that Obama deems useful, in which case this administration will claim full credit for it. Sounds like Bill Clinton’s relationship with Newt Gingrich.

I thank you for another interesting post. I read your insightful item on NPR about “gaga”.

I am weary, tired. Things seemed to be going well, and I knew that it was too easy for me the last few days, something wasn’t right. I expect frustration and difficulty. Like finding a parking space in NYC when you have a car, where you wish to have it, when you want to have it – there is something wrong.

Anyhow, sure enough, my thoughts all turned sour, and I don’t know if this mindset is all in part to the knowlege that there exists those who have absolutely no clue – are deceitful beyond one’s imagination – are utterly incompetent – seem to be totally corrupt – who now run this Country in the form of Team Obama and the regretful Democratic Party.

Perhaps it is even harder to deal with the expected surprise difficulty which happens about ten times a day, for I know the likes of these Democrats are making horrible mistakes for all, and seem to have arrived to a Royal Lifestyle without any real accomplishment.

And then I await all my hard earned existence to sink with this mess, or the subway to blow up with some “man made disaster”.

    Such is life these days.

All I can say, thank you Mr. Bush for leading as you did.

Bring back GW and the Republican Majority now.

Then I think sleeping will be easier, bumps will be less painful, oppressed Nations around the world will have some hope, and Americans will enjoy going back to work in a healthy free society.

yea, I’m pretty sick of hearing “Bush tax cuts for the wealthy” when EVERYONE received a tax cut and the number of tax filers owing 0 tax increased under Bush. The left tries to say the tax cuts benefitted the wealthy disproportionately, well —duh!!! The wealthy pay most of the taxes anyway.

Middle class people got tax cuts but they weren’t “fair” because the cuts were worth many more dollars to someone paying many more of them in taxes.

I remember the commentary of the time because it was such a clear window into the totalitarian mind. They kept yammering away that the country couldn’t afford the tax cuts even though tax revenues increased. “Afford.” That’s when I knew that to them all money properly belonged to the government and in letting people keep any of it the government was performing an act of charity. Letting one person have $158,000 while it “giving” another only $200 was obviously unfair.
