My friend Stanley Kurtz writes about being locked out of the special collections at the library of the University of Illinois in Chicago. He’d attempted to look at open records of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, as part of his quest to determine the connections between ex-Weatherman Bill Ayers and Senator Barack Obama. After initial assurances, he suddenly found himself confronted with a series of excuses, all aimed at closing off the papers he wanted to see.

Whatever one’s political affiliation, however, this straightforward attempt to halt library access for political purposes ought to seem outrageous. He asks that you help him by emailing the president of the University of Illinois system, B. Joseph White, at the address found here .
